Prayers of the Saints: St. John of the Cross

Reveal Your Presence

Why, since you wounded this heart, don’t you heal it? And why, since you stole it from me, do you leave it so, and fail to carry off what you have stolen?

:

Extinguish these miseries, since no one else can stamp them out; and may my eyes behold you, because you are their light, and I would open them to you alone.

:

Reveal your presence, and may the vision of your beauty be my death; for the sickness of love is not cured except by your very presence and image.

:

O spring like crystal! If only, on your silvered-over faces, you would suddenly form the eyes I have desired, which I bear sketched deep within my heart.

:

Withdraw them, Beloved, I am taking flight!

An Unknown Prayer By St. Francis

May We Make Our Way To You

50. Almighty, eternal, just, and merciful God, grant us in our misery [the grace] to do for You alone what we know You want us to do, and always to desire to please you.

51. Thus, inwardly cleansed, interiorly enlightened, and inflamed by the fire of the Holy Spirit, may we be able to follow in the footprints of Your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

52. And, by Your grace alone, may we make our way to You, Most High, Who live and rule in perfect Trinity and simple Unity, and are glorified God all-powerful forever and ever.

Amen
